Pass It On Young Sports
From Humble Beginnings
Pass It On Young Sports, From Humble Beginnings to a National Volunteering Organisation, as this opening statement suggests we are quite a success story.
This was all the brain child of its founder Rob Collins BEM,
working/volunteering for some other national Country Sports Organisations heading up their youth programmes predominantly here in Somerset but all over the UK too, Rob chaired a local shooting club and naturally headed up their shooting sports youth development programme, actually Rob still chairs this shooting to this day where the ethos is Country Sports with conservation at its core excatly as it always has been.
Pass It On Young Sports actually started off as The Woodspring Pigeon Shooting and Wildfowling Clubs Youth Initiative Programme, we put on a huge Country Sports day championing all Country Sports and Crafts with Conservation being its core belief, nothing has changed Pass It On Still runs on this its original ethos, we held this Country Sports day alongside other Shooting Clubs and Organisation flocking to our banner to put on this family youth day way back in 2009, it was such a huge success and so well supported from all over the UK I called a meeting of all the clubs and organisations in a local pub.
We discussed at great length this new found idea and how best to build on this, it was obvious this was just far too big for a small Somerset shooting club to build and run, we agreed unanimously it must be a non profit, volunteer organisation, this was where our strength lay, other organisations are run as a business and this is where they fail, all the days I had helped run always had low number of young people or indeed families, they simply priced themselves out of the market etc, so a volunteer organisation was born.

Now Rob didn't really think he would be heading this organisation up, but it was unanimously voted in by our original committee they didn't want anyone else in charge, so Rob nervously accepted the role, over the years many things have changed, Rob has had to make some tough choices to keep this mighty ship made from Somerset's Mighty Oak sailing on a calm waters,
Rob said: if I say so myself we have grown tremendously and are in really good shape today, I still stick to my original oath I took when the organisation was formed, The Young Sports will always come first and I will move heaven and hell never to let the Young Sports down.
What we have become famous for all over the UK is our Famous Family Taster Days, our strength nationally is our Volunteers who still flock to our banner to Pass On their skills and passion for Country Sports and Conservation.
From these now world famous taster days we are running in England/Ireland/Scotland and Wales, but our acorn was planted here in the fertile soil of our beloved Somerset, these Taster Days are so popular nationwide that the families and indeed the Young Sports all wanted, the shooting ranges were always so popular, we train Marksmanship properly and the Young and hmmmmm not so Young Sports flock to our shooting ranges on the Taster Days so much.

8 years ago Rob called a meeting of the England Branch, he had an idea to start off local sub power air rifle and air pistol ranges in pub skittle alleys, in the Midlands and other parts of the country we had seven meter bell target shooting, we used to have them here when I was a boy Rob said, his thoughts was to revive this but bigger and better than before, I made contact with my friend and fellow fishing coach Dave Green who was also the landlord of the Ring O Bells Pub in Nailsea, he was also an avid shooting man, the answer was a big yes to using the pubs skittle alley as a Pass It On Young sports Shooting Range, Rob bought out of his own pocket a series of knock down targets, pellet catcher targets etc, built purpose built back stops and a pop up range that would transform the skittle alley into a sub power air rifle/pistol range, built a Marksmanship training programme and organised some top quality volunteer shooting coaches.
Thus the Pass It On Young Sports Air Rifle/Pistol Shooting ranges were born, every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6pm till 9pm throughout the year we run come wind, rain or shine, from that very first night we were packed out with families and still are to this day, Covid hit and grounded us, the pub changed hands and although we ran when we could it never had the same gusto as when my friend Dave owned the pub, the new owners are not shooting people or have a passion for it, they are business people,

We moved our range base to The Wraxall Village Club just outside of Nailsea again transforming their skittle alley into a sub power Air Rifle and Air Pistol Range, The Wraxall Club welcomed us with both hands and we have not looked back, we now run the range on a Tuesday Night from 6pm till 9pm for the Young Sports and Families, all weather shooting facilities, a wonder clubhouse, toilets, kitchen inside and out this place is perfect for my Young Sports and their families, yet again we have grown so much, every week our books are fully booked with many families, many of the kids have mobility or other physical or mental difficulties, we welcome them all and they join in with all the other kids nobody gets left out.
We have held taster days and other events at the club too, its such a wonderful venue run by great people and such a social place to come along too, big sofas, fresh brewed Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate and other soft drinks and confectionery available from The Bar as well as non soft drinks for the Mums and Dads etc those that don't shoot that is as we do not allow alcohol on our ranges or shooters who have had an alcoholic drink.
If you would like to know more about Pass It On Young Sports and our taster days and ranges, drop our national secretary Mags a line via the details below, we can also help you with pointing you in the right direction for The Long Ashton and District Rifle Club too.
